With the launch of Fox Red Comics, the success of our Seventh Sister #1 Kickstarter and work already underway for 2024, this has been a big year. In today’s newsletter, we take a look back at 2023 and share what we’ve got planned in 2024 in our end-of-year wrap up.
Comic-Con Adventures
You may have spotted us under our Blue Fox Comics banner at MCM Comic-Con in October and Thought Bubble in November. These were a busy couple of months, and some great conventions. A year of firsts; Blue Fox Comics moved to an exhibitor booth at MCM this year. It was really good to have the extra space and ultimately meant we had two walls around the table - something to prop up the growing banner collection! It was a great experience and we’re looking to see if we can have another booth in 2024.
Thought Bubble was, of course, a wonderful couple of days filled with great books and good people. For those who attend Thought Bubble and know the legends, this was also the first year I saw the giant…facilities (yes, toilets) at the Majestic Hotel. We’ve been going to Thought Bubble for eight years now, but it was only this year we were introduced to the bathroom space. (Thank you, Ellie and Lyndon, for sharing this with us).
Seventh Sister #1 – Only the Lonely
We couldn’t go without mentioning the amazing success of Seventh Sister #1. As the first book for Fox Red, we’re delighted with how this came out and hugely grateful for the show of support on the Kickstarter campaign – thank you to all our backers, everyone who shared the campaign and all who supported.
It turns out December is a wild month to fulfil an extra Kickstarter, alongside Blue Fox Comics activities. I think it’s fair to say Fox HQ is the closest I have ever felt to what I imagined Santa’s workshop might be like around this time of year. Exciting and chaotic, Christmas really did come early, and the house has never been so full.
Fulfilment got well underway, and I got ahead of myself wrapping up parcels, so for those who’d like a glimpse of what we made or are still waiting on theirs in the post, here’s the unboxing video for a glimpse of the physical book. (Extra love for Christopher’s cameo.)
Coming in 2024…
Tides #1
Recluse, Tora, grows up by the sea under the watchful eye and tutelage of her father, fisherman Aramis. With the disappearance of her mother a heavy burden carried between them, father and daughter hold on to one another all the more tightly, keeping to themselves and fortifying their tiny world against the powers and dangers beyond their cottage walls. The lives they lead are private, quiet; still. But when Tora’s father goes missing at sea and she sets out to find him, she discovers the dangers in the deep are no match for what waits at home.
We’ve shared a previous sneak peak of our upcoming title, Tides #1, with words by me, Marielle Bouleau, and art by Majory Yokomizo. The book is now off for lettering with the wonderful Rob Jones (Busy Little Bees, The Thing on the Doorstep, At Last the Light) and with the beautiful full colour pages now ready, I wanted to share a few more images of what’s in store.
Below are some of the full colour pages for Tides #1 from the incredible Majory Yokomizo (Seventh Sister, Fishing Memories).
Honorary mention: Keep an eye out for more of Rob and Majory’s work coming soon in Hexes Vol 3, from Blue Fox Comics.
Coming in 2024…
Seventh Sister #2
Simon Birks has written Seventh Sister #2 and the script is ready to go for illustration. We’ll be getting these pages ready in 2024, to get Seventh Sister #2 ready for the new Kickstarter Campaign. Keep an eye out for more updates on this and the Kickstarter coming soon!
And in the meantime… Happy New Year!
Now we have our first book for Fox Red Comics, we’ll be looking to bring these and the Fox Red banner to Comic Cons in 2024, alongside our Blue Fox Comics. Our Comic-Cons should start around March, so keep an eye out for the Fox Red logo and our banner then.
We look forward to keeping in touch in the new year, catching up at a Comic-Con and creating more great books in 2024. In the meantime, from all of us here at Fox HQ we wish you the very best for a happy and healthy New Year. May it bring you kindness, joy and many, many comics.
Take care,
Marielle and the Fox Red Team
